Important Safety Guidelines within the Warehouse

It is important that proper safety measures are taken in the warehouse. Too many accidents have happened because workers/management cannot take the time to implement these measures. This is due to either inadequate resources or just trying to seize an opportunity to cut corners and save money.

However, despite safety implementation taking some time, it leads to higher employee satisfaction and increased productivity. These are definitely two major benefits. Here are some tips for safety that you should follow in your warehouse.

  1. Ensure safety equipment is used at all times

Ensure that when lifting heavy items that the appropriate machines are being using – these include forklifts and hydraulic dollies. Make sure that all workers are wearing appropriate eyewear and hard hats. Emergency exits should not be blocked. All these precautions will help to minimise workplace injury.

  1. Clearly label designated hazardous zones

Dangerous equipment must always be stored away in a labelled area. Safe walk ways should also be highlighted with either tape or black and white stripes on the floor.

  1. Eliminate any potential safety hazards

These include, but are not limited to, stray cords, liquids, etc. Warehouse floors should always be free of ‘slip and trip’ hazards. Therefore, cracks and pits in the flooring should also be attended to regularly.

  1. Always use safe lifting techniques

Always have signs around your workplace showing your workers the correct lifting techniques to use when move objects. Always assess what method is the best option when you do have to move something around. If you are lifting, you should always to check that your route is clear and that nothing is the way. The load should not obstruct your view, either.

  1. Promote awareness in your warehouse

It is essential that there is good communication between your staff members. Collision incidents can be drastically reduced if workers let each other know where they are. Workers should also be constantly aware of their surroundings.

  1. Provide training and refresher courses

Your workers should be well educated and up to date with knowledge about safety practices within the workplace. It is important that staff AND management are completely aware of the repercussions of poor safety ethic.

These are just a few tips to help you in your workplace. Do you have any other safety guidelines?
